I am afraid it’s that time of year again, with the nights drawing in, our evening groups will soon be back on the roads. Here’s a reminder of our tips for staying safe running at night.
Hi Viz tops are mandatory for joining our evening groups. You can choose to supplement your top with head or chest torches. Sportology on Boldmere High St provide a hi viz tabard that can be worn over your preferred running gear and they are only £5.50.
Stay alert and look where you are going! It can take a while to adjust to running in the dark / on the pavements so please take it easy for a while. Be aware of vehicles reversing / vehicles exiting or entering side roads / street furniture / random flower displays / bins. Give each other room.
Cross the road safely – Leaders will choose the route that enables you to cross the busy roads at safer places eg the zebra crossing on Upper Clifton, the zebra outside the swimming baths and so on. Please use the safe places. Please do not just ‘follow the leader’ across the roads – if there is a gap between you then it may no longer be safe to cross. Look both ways and remember that electric vehicles and bicycles do not make much noise.
No headphones – Make the most of being with the group and leave the headphones at home when coming out with SE Fitness.
Stay safe all xx
