An Extra Chance to Win Points before Christmas!

Start:               9:00am by Visitor Centre in Sutton Park

MEET FROM 8.30 UNDER THE GAZEBO BY THE VISITOR CENTRE

Cost:                Regular fees apply. None member just £3 to take part. Under 16’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

EVERYONE WELCOME

If you can’t make the Saturday then come along on Friday 18^th and do the Time Challenge in place of normal groups.

GRAND PRIX

10 POINTS awarded to fastest man and fastest woman over both days. 9 points for second fastest, 8 for third and so on.

AFTERWARDS

On Saturday we will serve Tea, Coffee and Mince Pies afterwards under the Gazebo. So please bring your Christmas Hat / Jumper to keep you warm and join us! Any donations will go to Charity.

ALL DONATIONS TOWARDS THE DRINKS AND TREATS WILL GO TO OUR 2016 CHARITY – THE MS TRUST.

PLEASE NOTE

• On both dates there will be one Run Plus leader available for anyone who does not want to take part and go for a longer run.
• Only the WALKING GROUP will go ahead as normal on Saturday 19^th. We hope you can still join us for a Festive Mince Pie afterwards!

Giving your body time to rest is a crucial part of running but one that we often neglect.  At SE Fitness lots of you have had a hard year of running and we are starting to see a few injury worries.

Why not take it a bit easier for the next few weeks and let your body recover?  We want to maintain the routine so here are a few things to consider:

• Do you really need to run flat out every time?  Choose a day for an easy run and catch up with your running buddies.
• Can you reduce your weekly mileage?  If you are not in training do you need that extra long run at the weekend?
• Swap one of your runs for a bike ride or a swim.
• Try a sports massage.
• Try Yoga or a Stretch class.
• Get plenty of sleep!

I want to see you return in 2016 UPBEAT and HEALTHY and READY for the next challenge!

If you FANCY JOINING THE SUPPORTERS here is what you need to know:

• Meet on the first train out of Sutton on Sunday morning at 9.22am.
• Text Mandy on 07834 621372 so she can keep an eye out for you.
• Put up the flag and cheer the runners on at Selfridges/Digbeth near the start, Broad street near the finish.
• Get to All Bar One and save us a table with plenty of chairs for at the end!!!!!!

For good running form an athlete should hold arms at a 90 degree angle at the elbow with tall posture and relaxed shoulders as demonstrated here perfectly by Nic Waldron.  He may, however, want to put that pint down before going into full ‘Sockets to Pockets’ mode!

A stunning Autumn morning in the park for a 10K run but somehow those paths seem so much harder than usual!  Congratulations to all SE Fitness taking part including:  Adam Page, Corinne Neville, Rob Tipping, Steve Brothwood, Richard Portman, Mary Hobin, Sharon Moore, Sam Hynes (and sister), Clare Loughead, Vanessa Brown, Helen Gould, Helen Hodgkiss, Jenny Reeve, Sara Allen, Jon and Deb Hartland, Simon Campbell, Neil Insley, Liz Adnitt, John Braniff.  Yes I think SE Fitness probably made up half the field!  I’m so proud of you all, you looked magnificent.

Thank you also to our supporters Joy, Rosie, Lisa, Malcolm and my two Johns!

Good luck to those all SE Fitness heading off to London tomorrow for what I hope will be a beautiful half marathon course around the capital.  Hope you have a great time Carrie Gibson, Amanda Baxter, Michelle Stammers, Sharon Rowley, Stan Tanner and anybody else taking part who I’ve missed out!

Last day for online registrations for the 10K race Cinder Path, Sunday 11th October.  It’s in the park and we have practised the route so why not give yourself the motivation and challenge of signing up? It’s a Grand Prix Event so let me have your time afterwards and you can also earn a few points!  This year it is the weekend before the Half Marathon so it would be a good Taper Run.  Plenty of SE Fitness members will be there taking part and supporting (I hope) so don’t be nervous – join in!

Here’s Saturday morning run regular Graham Mills (on right) with his mate Steve Cartmel running the Dublin Half Marathon.  Graham finished in 1 hour 44.  Who does their FIRST half marathon that quickly?   Congratulations!

Apparently the Dublin half marathon is a lot of fun and someone has suggested we make it the venue for the first SE Fitness Overseas Tour!  How’s that sound anyone?!!

Sorry to say it but with the nights drawing in our evening groups will soon be running on the roads.  Stay Safe Everyone.  Please follow the safety advise below:

• Everyone must wear a Hi Viz top.
• Take care crossing the road – Run Fitness and 5 to 5 follow Leader directions.  Run Plus I know you don’t want to break your stride but please ‘LOOK BOTH WAYS’.
• No headphones.
• Pay attention for bikes – you won’t hear them coming.  Be considerate to pedestrians.
• Take extra care around pavement hazards such as parked cars – GIVE EACH OTHER ROOM.
• Run against traffic where possible, so that oncoming cars can be seen.
• If you identify a Risk on a route then please report it to your leader or me.

Sam Crawford with his Dad (SE Fitness Leader) Mark enjoying their day at the Great North Run.  Sam finished with the elite in a mind-boggling 1:24:43 and his Dad came home a short time later.  Amazing times guys well done.
