Just to make you aware we have had a couple of nasty falls recently. I’m sure you have noticed how the heavy rains have washed away the paths in some places making the surface broken and rutted. Please PICK YOUR FEET UP! Also slow down as you enter the woods and let your eyes adjust. The change from bright light to gloomy can be tricky. Thank you!
Don’t forget tomorrow is the deadline if you want to join us on the Walkers Day out. It’s Thursday 30th June. Costs around £20 to £25 per head.
Costs include coach transfer to and from Cannock Chase Visitor Centre and lunch at The Trooper on the way home.
All you need to do is email me, text on 07788 628 755 or add your name to the list on the board.
It’s going to be a beautiful, summers day. Perfect for a walk on the Chase followed by lunch with good friends. The ideal way to welcome Jenny back.
Great response already for the Walkers’ outing to Cannock Chase and then on to the Trooper for lunch. I’ve moved the deadline back to Monday 6th June so that our Monday walkers have chance to get their name down too!
Couple of notes:
- the shorter walk with Jenny will NOT BE ANY LONGER than one of our normal Walk Fitness walks between 2 and 3 miles.
- Becky and Jan are coming on the coach so the Walkers’ Outing will BE IN PLACE OF OUR NORMAL WALKING GROUPS on Thursday 30th June.
We’ve been talking about arranging a day out for the SE Fitness Walkers and here it is timed perfectly to coincide with summer and with Jenny’s return (we hope)!
Date: Thursday 30th June
Meet: Coach pick up at Wyndley Leisure Centre at 9.30am
Arrive: Cannock Chase Visitor Centre at around 10.30am. We will be here for around two hours. The Visitor Centre has a café, Information centre and toilets.
We will lead two different walks from the Visitor centre.
Walk 1 – Just under 5 miles across glorious Cannock Chase.
The paths are gravel paths with loose stones. They are not muddy but the surface is uneven with some steep parts. Perfect for Walk Plus and some Walk Fit. Two or three leaders means we can cope with a variety of different pace.
Walk 2 – Shorter walk on the Brindley Heath Trails.
If you wish to avoid the uneven surface and stick to tarmac trails then Jenny will lead a shorter walk. Some of these roads were part of the former RAF base. Suitable for Wednesday Walkers and Walk Fit.
Depart: We leave Cannock Chase at around 12.30 and head to the pub for Lunch. We are considering The Trooper at Wall because it is on the way home. They do a fixed price lunch at £9 for one course or £12 for two.
Home: Our aim is to be back at Wyndley by about 3.30.
Costs
We can only confirm exact costs once we know numbers. But as a guide:
- Coach between £10 and £15 per head.
- Maximum number 30 and we need a minimum of 20 to make the trip viable.
- Lunch at The Trooper – 1 Course £9, 2 Courses £12. Their standard menu is Starter and Main but no pudding (what!). We can arrange dessert by negotiation!
To Book a Place
At this stage all you need to do is say you want to come! Oh, and let me know if you’ll want pudding!
Email helyn@sefitness.com, Text 07788 628755 or put your name on the list on the board. The coach companies are very busy so we can’t delay. Deadline for letting me know you are interested: Thursday 2nd June
Once we have final numbers we will confirm the price and finalise arrangements with the coach and the pub.
I do hope you can join us I hope it will make a nice day out and the perfect way to welcome Jenny back.
As some of you know I’m injured so not running at the moment. I miss it but not as much as I would without the walking groups. Thanks to them I’m still exercising, still out there enjoying Sutton Park in all its glorious Spring green finery and, most important of all, still enjoying the company of some great people! Thanks walkers!
If you are one of our Beginner Runners or a Walker or indeed an experienced runner with a niggle then the 7.5 mile training run could be as much as you need. Save the 8.5 miles for race day itself when adrenalin and the support of the crowd will carry you over that last mile.
Consider how tired you feel or how much pain you are in! If you come next week then consider cutting the route short or indeed not coming at all. There are still 2 weeks to go but your normal runs will suffice. You have already done enough long runs and your main aim is to arrive at the start feeling fresh and healthy – not tired and injured! I can’t help you answer this one only you know how your body is feeling.
For everyone else Saturday 28th May registration from 8.30 warm up 8.50 and start 9.00am start (prompt)!
We are all missing Walk Leader Jenny Hill who has had an operation on her feet (most inconvenient for a walk leader) and so is out of action at SE Fitness for several weeks. I popped in to see Jenny last week and she asked me to thank everyone for the lovely cards, presents and well wishes. She said visitors are welcome so please pop in. Somehow she managed to look glamorous as ever despite the medical shoes!
If you really don’t want to take part in Fun Run training tomorrow then please join either one of these lovely Leaders instead. Becky will take a mixed ability run group and Sian will look after our regular walkers. Go into reception of Wyndley to sign in as normal.
Here is the route for Fun Run Training on Saturday. Anyone who does not want the whole 5.5 miles feel free to cut it short after one loop. Everyone must sign back in before collecting belongings!
Not taking part in the Great Midlands Fun Run this year? Then please join me, little John, Mandy and Becky in the SE Fitness Supporters Team!
We are looking for as many of you as possible to join us on the Fun Run Route to cheer, hand out sweets and generally encourage everyone from SE Fitness.
I know it makes a huge difference to our runners and walkers to have your support so please sign up on the “SE Fitness Support Team” sheet on the board or email Helyn@sefitness.com.
The more the merrier!
