No need to complicate our Cross Train Challenge it could be as straightforward as a walk in the park!
I’d like to advocate walking as a useful way for runners to cross train. Whilst it may not have all the strength and flexibility benefits of some of the other exercise we are promoting I always say that the exercise done is much more efficacious than the ideal exercise that is only thought about!
Runners like me who enjoy being outdoors are much more likely to go for a walk than hit the gym. Walking uses different muscles to running and has much lower impact so it enables you to make small adaptions that strengthen your feet, knees and hips. A long brisk walk will boost endurance and add in plenty of hills for strength.
Walking enables you to enjoy the scenery around you and boosts your mood. I’d highly recommend it!
