As Autumn rolls in and the days get shorter our evening groups need to prepare for a return to running and walking on the roads. Safety reminders for everyone because it has been a while!
Hi Viz – To join an SE Fitness group you must wear a hi viz top that can be seen (this is also good practise if you are going out alone, I hate to see runners in dark clothes on winter evenings). You can buy the popular orange tops with reflective writing for £11.50 and the yellow hi viz tabards are just £5.50. These are particularly useful as can be worn over anything so not weather dependent. These tops and others are available from Sportology. You can order online or in store, they are based on the corner of Antrobus Road on Boldmere High St. https://www.sportologyonline.com/collections/se-fitness
Be alert – At SE Fitness we will do our best to look out for you and identify potential risks but it remains your responsibility when out with us to take care, be alert and support your Leader. Vehicles at intersections and reversing out of drives are a particular hazard.
Crossing the road – Please don’t just run into the road. Cross carefully using pedestrian crossings where possible. Pause the Garmin if you have to!
Pavement obstacles – Negotiate obstacles on the pavement with care: parked cars, wheelie bins and so on. Slow down to give each other room. If you must run in the road then be sure to run on the right hand side facing the oncoming traffic.
Headphones – should not be worn.
Head / Chest Torch – These have become increasingly popular in recent years so might be worth digging yours out and charging it! It’s worth getting hold of a head torch if you intend to join us for our popular ‘Full Moon Runs’ otherwise they are not essential.
Listen to your Leader – Please support your leader and others members of the group.
Stay safe SE Fitness!
