Well what a difference a day makes! Having enjoyed our socially distanced street party in warm sunshine the North wind has blown in and driven some folks back indoors. Certainly the park was quieter this morning for our Sunday stroll.
Thanks to resident SE Fitness gardener Kate Rose for this week’s tips and please note the frost warning for tonight and tomorrow!
“Gardening can give you a full body workout, as can be seen from this illustration. So if you’re missing the gym, get to your shed, get your tools out and get weeding, digging and tidying this weekend! Of course, as with all exercise, it’s important not to go too crazy; make sure to warm up, stretch afterwards and mix up tasks to avoid injury from repetitive movements (not speaking from experience, at all!). Pilates is a fantastic companion exercise for lots of sports and activities, but especially for gardening as it strengthens the back and core.
FROST WARNING!
Cold night time temps are forecast for Sunday and Monday night, so bring any tender plants inside or cover them if you can. The saying ‘ne’er cast a clout, till May be out’ is one that gardeners take to mean don’t plant summer bedding until after May, or it could also mean until mayflowers (hawthorn blossom) are out. Personally I just keep an eye on the weather forecast!
