Getting to know ….. Jess Merriman. Inspirational young woman, SE Fitness Leader and Grand Prix Runner Up.
I started running as a “stressed” 18 year old – completing A-levels, choosing a uni & breaking up with my first boyfriend!
Where you are now?
As a leader we don’t get the choice to be fair weather runners, plan routes with the least amount of hills or stick to a favourite distance and that’s one of the things I love about being a leader!
Saturday mornings are however my favourite run of the week. I love the park in the morning, I feel set up for the weekend and of course their is the coffee afterwards !
What does running do for you?
For me running is ‘me time.’ It’s my chance to escape the madness of the week, clear my head and do something for myself.
I also love the social aspect of running with SE Fitness, running with so many different people and never knowing who you’ll be chatting to today!
To just keep running… having just gone back to work after maternity leave life feels hectic and it would be easy to give up my “me time” because I feel guilty (kids) or could use that time for something else (tidying my house!) or put extra time in at work…however my goal for 2020 is to always make time to run. I’ve been running for 12 years, I can’t imagine life without it and I now I’m better at all these things if I allow a little time for myself.
Your favourite ever event!
Windsor to Eton Half Marathon – picturesque route, lovely and flat and the perfect autumn weather conditions!
Tips to Share?
My tip to anyone wanting to start running is to run with other people.
And finally I couldn’t get through a run without…
Someone to run with !
