Getting to know….Sharon ‘Chatty’ Wright
I asked Sharon if she’d be part of this series because I have watched her training this Autumn and been inspired personally by how well she is running. Although she doesn’t look it Sharon is over 50 and I think we all reach a stage of thinking our best runs are behind us! Sharon’s showed us all this past few months that needn’t be the case. She’s changed her diet and cross training and looks to be running stronger than ever. Congratulations Sharon, you’ve certainly inspired me!
Here’s Sharon’s story…I started running about 7/8 years ago but before that I used to go to outdoor boot camp type training, but it was the running part of it I enjoyed the most. I used to see the SE runners out running and asked about the club and that was it I was hooked.
It helps me not only physically but mentally, I’ve sorted many a thing in my head while running lol
Morning runs are my preference and summertime as long as it’s not too hot. Distance wise anything for different reasons but half marathons probably the most as I enjoy the training for it as well.
I don’t think you should look at your age as a barrier to achieving a goal. I’m probably running better now than the last couple of years. I’ve started doing HITT and strength type training a couple of times a week at home. My diet has changed as well. I’ve always considered myself a healthy eater but I used to skip lunch and not really eat regular and probably not enough of the food my body needed. I eat more now and it’s definitely given me more energy.
Never compare yourself to anyone else, it’s your achievement that matters.
I shall continue what I’m doing for now and make changes along the way if need be.
I have a charity place for the London marathon and can’t wait to start the training. I’m thrilled that my running mate Stan Tanner will be doing it with me (not sure if he is though😂)!!
