John and I have been SE Fitness Leaders for over 10 years and it’s just a lovely thing to do. You get your own run/walk but at the same time get to help other people. You get to feel part of a team who is helping our local community.
If you’ve been with us for a while then you’ll find Leading adds a new dimension which is about helping others. Finding yourself on the Leader rota is the best way I know of ensuring you exercise regularly – there really is no better motivation!
At the moment we are particularly short of someone to lead our Run Fitness evening groups. However I know come holiday season we will need spare leaders in all areas! Don’t worry if you can’t commit every week. Regular Leaders are brilliant but if you can only help occasionally (to cover injury / holidays) that’s very helpful too.
We offer full training ‘in-house’ so you aren’t just thrown in at the deep end. On top of that we can put you through the UK Athletics Run Leader course. I’ve found recently that it can help if you volunteer with a ‘buddy’ so if you and a friend would like to Lead as part of a team that’s great – volunteer together!
