Reasons why ‘Exercise Once a Day’ is so important
It gives you time alone
For those who live with families we are not used to spending so much time together in our homes. The exercise once a day gives you permission to head out and get a few moments alone! Good for you but come back in a better mood good for those living with you too.
It could be the best time you have with your kids all day
For those with kids your few moments outside could be the best time you have with your kids all day. Whether that’s football in the garden, a family bootcamp, a walk in the park.
It reminds you that there are others out there
Take yourself out and, even observing social distance guidelines, you will see a few folks out and about, particularly important if you live alone. You can count rainbows in windows, shout a cheery ‘hello’ to the guy across the street, you might even see a friend from SE Fitness.
It helps you sleep
Sleep is one of my three cornerstones for maintaining good mental health. The other two being some form of exercise (preferably outdoors) and eating well. Keep active, sleep well, wake up ready to face another day.
It gives you something to plan
All the usual things we plan and look forward to are on hold. The one thing you can plan is your daily exercise. Focus on what you can do and not what you can’t. Get creative and mix things up. Few want to run every day so what else can you do? How can you encourage the kids to join in? What about the dog? Plan a route, we aren’t supposed to go far from home so factor that in. Would a challenge help? Set yourself one like Hazel with her STRAVA letters or join a ‘Virtual Challenge’ – there are plenty out there.
