Couch to 5K

Our brilliant ‘Couch to 5K’ course is ideal for anyone who is new to running or not run for a while.  The emphasis is on getting out there, having fun and taking steps to being more active.

The 12-week course starts with more walking than running and we gradually increase the time and distance until you can confidently run 5K.  With that in mind we encourage you to join us for a timed 5k run, like parkrun, to celebrate your ‘graduation’.

Couch to 5K groups are small and sociable with everyone sharing the journey together.  They are lead by experienced runners who have qualified as Leaders with UK Athletics.

Our popular Coach to 5K programmes start in January, April and September so please complete the Join Form to book on to the next course.  Your running journey starts here!

Testimonials

‘I completed the Birmingham 10K yesterday! My first ever official race! I cant believe that that I was so excited a few weeks ago about doing my first mile and yesterday I ran 6.44.
If it wasn’t for all the encouragement, patience and support of everyone at S E Fitness on those days when I just didn’t feel like running I couldn’t have done it. I am now looking to sign up for my next one now that I know I have this in me!!! I even got a shout out over the microphone yesterday for my 5 stone weight loss! I missed the sutton run this year but will definitely be doing it next year with the club and I will keep my eyes peeled to get involved.’…Dee, May 2019

‘Just thought I would give you a little feed back from my 1 mile challenge today in the couch to 5K group! I did it!!! I paced myself as I was determined to complete it without walking…and I did.  This has motivated me to continue as I can see the improvement in just a few weeks. Love the group, everyone is so supportive of each other. Joy and Becky push us just enough to challenge us but keep us motivated and safe at the same time.  I have signed up for park run in March and my goal is to compete the Birmingham 10K…… Huge thanks you to all the team’…Dee, January 2019

‘I know I’m in the right place, I’ve had Becky and Joy as leaders so far and they are brilliant at encouraging me and making me feel positive about running. Let’s hope I can achieve 5 minutes of running – one day’…Tracy, January 2018

‘The walk to run group is just brilliant. I’ve never ran in my life so it was great to start … thanks so much.’ Amarah,  May 2017

‘I made it last night for my first session, I was very nervous, hadn’t a clue what to expect, and I was quite pleased with myself at the end. I admit I did really struggle at the start and walked more than ran, but Tammy was brilliant and stayed with me, talking to me and motivating me, and before I knew it had distracted me, and I was running for 2 minutes! the rest of the group were great and very encouraging.’ Caroline, January 2016

‘Just been for my first fun 2 run session….loved it, was hard work but running with others and a brilliant instructor got me through it!’ Emma C, January 2016′

‘I came to my first Fun 2 Run session on my own which I found hard, but the leaders put me at ease very quickly. I also came to the curry social on my own but again felt very welcome. I now look forward to my run session and hate it if I ever have to miss it.’ Charlotte Roberts , September 2014

‘SE Fitness running for absolute beginners was recommended to me by a friend. Now I love it……in fact I get withdrawal symptoms if I have to miss a session’ Lisa Baker age 44yrs, October 2014
