With our wings clipped many of us finding more time to enjoy the nature unfolding around us. I’ve thought for a while that a better knowledge of birds, both sight and sound, would help make a run or walk more interesting. Increasing my bird knowledge is on my list of things to do, based on previous experience there’s a good chance that I’ll do nothing about that list, but let’s at least make a start!
The first thing I learned while scampering about on the grass in my dressing gown is that I won’t be giving up the day job to become a wildlife photographer! Hopefully you can just about make out the Blackbird perched on our hawthorn hedge.
Blackbirds are often found in gardens and most years we have a pair who make our garden part of their territory during the breeding season March to July. The male blackbird is black with a striking golden beak but the females and young, confusingly are brown.
The Blackbird is one of the finest songbirds in the world with a charming, lazy fluting song at this time of year. Many of us have travelled many miles to see ‘amazing nature’ but all you need to do to hear this amazing nature is open the window! Click on the link below so you know what to listen for.
