90 members attended the Summer event at Fairlawns last tuesday night. We received a wonderful reception from ‘Chris’ our host for the evening. Judging by the emails I have had the evening was a great success. The food and service was perfect. The following awards were made on the night:
5km Assessment certificates were awarded to: Jane Bailey, Fiona Callaghan, Sam Godsall & Heather Roberts
presented by Jan Simmons & Sarah Jefferson.
The SE Fitness Fun Run Grand prix annual awards were presented by Sarah Duffy, Julie Dodd, Martin Wilkinson & Dave Howles:
3rd place
This runners’ claim to fame is her ability to predict how fast she can run – she has scored top points in both our 5k handicap events – Liz Petley.
For the men – he gambled on just doing 6 events – getting a pb in the 7 pools when he also played his joker
– Clive Sayer
2nd place
For another year this runner becomes runner up – getting a pb and playing her joker at Aldridge 10k
– Pip Baines
Last year – this person was winner of our age group category and as always a committed SE Fitness runner (completed 10 out of the 13 events) is our runner up in the mens category – Barry Whitehouse
Our Winners of the SE Fitness fun run grand prix this year:
In the women’s category –this goes to someone who made an amazing return to form following a long lay off due to injury our winner from last year – Andrea Deathridge
However, this year she loses out on the overall trophy as our mens winner scored 5 pb’s out of the 10 events he entered. So, a great improvement and well deserved winner to last years runner up – Nick Lines
New for this year we decided to nominate special awards to our walkers and runners – nominated by your leaders.
Chris McCutcheon – nominated for her improved speed – we thought a set of weights either tied to your wrists all ankles would slow you down a bit. Presented by Jenny Hill
Jennie Green – Jennie is one of our newest runners – arriving on Saturday for the beg run gp but ended up in the GMFR training … was expecting 1 min walk, 3 mins run – discovered she was actually doing 5 mls continuous. Ouch! Nominated for her ability to keep going – a duracel battery and in case she runs out of energy some carbohydrate drinks. Presented by Corinna Gomm
Lynn Hyde – Lynn has amazed us all. Starting in the beg walkers – moved on to Walk plus and finally she is running. Who knows where she will end up. Featured in this weeks Fitness Matters column in the Sutton Observer. Nominated for her speed – Little Miss Quick. Presented by Jenny Hill
Sally Lines – Sally is nominated for her tremendous determination whilst running the London Marathon earlier this year. It wasn’t easy whilst suffering severe dehydration but she completed the 26.2 miles. For next year Sally we are advising you to wear this sun hat and carry a bit of water – so take this 5 litre container! Presented by Jack Thompson
Nuala Farrelly – Nuala has been nominated for her caring nature. She is always ready to encourage and support others in the group – whether walking or running. Also, for her ability to bounce back after serious illness. For Nuala a special Little Miss Helpful book and some chocolates. Presented by Andrea Taylor
Kate Veale & Catherine Hinis – both runners are nominated for their determination and commitment to SE Fitness. They spend so much of their time running we felt they might need a rest. So for Kate a bed and for Catherine a pillow. Presented by Mandy Morgan
Deb Kavanagh & Nickie Griffiths – nominated for their amazing ability to talk and run whatever distance and whatever pace. For Deb Little Miss Chatterbox book and for Nickie a Little Miss Chatterbox air freshner. Presented by Tammy Kirby
Andrea Robertson – Andrea has been nominated for her reliability at being able to follow the routes, read a map, good sense of direction. For Andrea we present a whistle to keep others following her and the yellow jersey to lead the way. Presented by Jack Thompson
Last but by no means least is our Leaders Award – this year we introduced an award for one leader nominated by our leaders. Anonymously… I have to say I have had such a lot of positive things said about all our leaders. I know I have a great team leading SE Fitness.
Becky was chosen for her caring nature, her organisational skills, her understanding of runners and walkers alike. I have got one gift for Becky – she was recently down to assess some of the runners and the sky was black. She was working out how she could do the assessment with clipboards, pencils, paper – and keep everything dry ….so for you Becky an SE Fitness umbrella to keep in your car for next time.
Also Becky gets the Leaders award.
Thank you to you all for attending our Summer Social – a date for your diaries either December 15th or 13th Moor Hall Christmas Social!
