Teenagers improve their physical activity levels……
There is great concern about the physical activity levels of our teenagers, inactive teenagers are more likely to suffer from obesity, depression and general laziness. Evidence shows that those who were inactive as a teenager were less likely to become active in later life.
SE Fitness has tried to address this problem locally by offering recreational running groups for teenagers. Kasia Czepiel joined our group and her story follows: “During the past six weeks at SE Fitness, our team leaders Mandy and Jenny have provided us with varied exercises to increase our personal fitness and stamina.
We have spent some sessions on the track at Wyndley, but have also enjoyed running in the park for a change of scenery when the weather is nicer. Each week the tasks we’ve been given have increased in difficulty, and our fitness has increased in accordance, allowing us to recognise improvement. Some of the exercises involve working as a larger team, while some test our individual stamina, but all of them have been stimulating and we have enjoyed them so much that we were surprised to find we had already been on the go for an hour! Our team leaders have allowed us to take everything at our own pace, never pushing us to feel uncomfortable, but nevertheless presenting us with new challenges each week.
During this course we have had the opportunity to meet lovely people and there is a great atmosphere in our group every week. By the end of the hour we are tired, but have had a brilliant time together and are always in good spirits. Many of the group had not done running before, but are now entering the Great Midlands Fun Run, taking place on the 10th June, after increasing their fitness and learning to enjoy exercise. I know we will all continue to come to SE fitness and would encourage other young people to do the same-to increase their fitness but also to be part of a wonderful group with fantastic leaders! “
Our young runners group takes place on Wednesdays at 6:15pm
