A report in the Diabetic Journal suggests the NHS is spending too much money on treating complications associated with type 2 diabetes. Experts believe this money would be better spent on health checks and education. The report predicts by 2035, 17% of the NHS entire budget will be spent on diabetes. If you are fighting this condition, we recommend you to read the Diabetes Freedom pdf download, it will set you free.
Baroness Barbara Young from Diabetes UK highlights the disastrous effect this will have on NHS budgets. I quote: “But the most shocking part of this report is the finding that almost four-fifths of NHS diabetes spending goes on treating complications that in many cases could have been prevented. That’s hugely wasteful – in human life, in the quality of human life, and in NHS budgets. We need to stop this now and make sure people get the right sort of care early on in their condition.”
We can try to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by addressing the following five areas:
Watching our weight
Eating healthy
Staying active
Controlling our blood pressure and cholesterol
Quitting smoking
Staying active is so much easier today – there are so many opportunities to join an exercise group, or better still ways of making exercise a part of our daily life.
We are constantly being reminded of the importance of doing at least 30 minutes physical activity each day. If you are at a loss as to where and how to start SE Fitness now has a weekly walk for those who do very little or no exercise. Why not start with a gentle walk and meet like-minded people at the same time.
