The Royal Wedding, being such a joyous event, brings communities together and a real ‘feel good factor’ follows. I was listening to a discussion on the radio which was asking which event will boost our economy the more the Royal Wedding or next years Olympic Games.
Seeing the crowds of well wishers all over our TV for the Royal Wedding made me think of the next time we’ll see such crowds on the streets of Sutton Coldfield. On June 5th Sutton Coldfield community will yet again come together for the Great Midlands Fun Run. Like the Olympic Games not only will it bring together crowds of enthusiastic supporters but it will provide a key motivational factor for local people to improve or maintain their commitment to regular exercise. With an event such as the Great Midlands Fun Run, not only the participants, but also their friends, families & work colleagues are likely to be drawn in to recognize the health benefits.
According to Race Director, Tracey Spare, numbers reached their capacity of 6000 before the official closing date for entries. And for the second year running the Fun Run has raised over £220,000 which will be distributed to 210 charities, voluntary organizations and community interest groups. Such is the popularity of this event, SE Fitness is able to offer regular dedicated training days to help runners & walkers prepare for the big day. This year the training days take place on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st May. To enroll just turn up at Wyndley Leisure Centre reception from 8:30am. The sessions start at 9am prompt. There is a £2 charge – all monies will go to charity.
