As I write this the sun is shining – a beautiful morning; such a contrast to the recent rain, rain and more rain. Once in an exercise routine the important thing is to maintain it. As with any change in lifestyle it is very easy to revert back to previous bad habits and the weather can have a major role if you have chosen an outdoor exercise.
To avoid this ‘lapsing’ it is best to consider other options that may be available so rather than just decide …’I can’t do it’ …you will be able to look forward to a new option. For some it may be that this variety is helpful in keeping to the exercise routine.
We have recently attracted new walkers who are golfers. I understand one golf course has been closed for 10 days! 10 days without any exercise – this then can become a habit if there is no thought of what could fill the gap. I imagine the rain has affected some tennis players and other such sports. In the past we have had long spells of very cold and icy weather, have you thought of an alternative if your chosen activity is cancelled?
Many people can continue to exercise outdoors in poor weather but it may become less attractive – appropriate clothing is essential in order for it to be safe and comfortable.
There is saying; ‘there is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing’. So, if your active lifestyle has been affected by the recent high fall of rain – next time be prepared.
