With the Great Midlands Fun Run taking place this weekend you would probably agree that Sutton Park is the running Mecca of the Midlands. However, it is not unusual for those who have been training avidly for the last 12 weeks to just stop once the fun run is over. The danger here is all the fitness gained will be lost in just a couple of weeks of inactivity. How unfair is that? If you have trained hard and got yourself into shape but now want to take a break from running or walking why not look at all the many other types of exercise on offer.
Go for something a bit different: boxercise is a great way to keep fit not only do you tone your body but let off steam too – popular with both men and women. Spinning is for those who want to ride a bike but don’t want to leave the comfort of the gym. Yoga is great for body, mind and spirit. More popular with women but did you know the England Cricket team incorporate Yoga into their personal training programmes? Circuit training can be an intense workout improving strength, mobility and stamina. Pilates will build your core strength and posture. Body Pump helps you tone up and keep fit using weights with aerobic exercise. Or maybe go for the more traditional fitness opportunities with swimming or cycling. Whatever you do try to keep the exercise habit and don’t waste all that hard work!
There will be others who, having watched the Great Midlands Fun Run, are now motivated to get into exercise. A great time of the year to start especially if you want to be part of the running Mecca of the Midlands.
