This time of year it’s very tricky to get the right gear on! It’s mild one minute and freezing cold the next. Check your weather app before you get dressed. Use the temperature to guide you.
20 degrees plus – get as close to naked as you can without causing the rest of us to blush! Vest and shorts. Yes you can wear shorts – it’s appropriate to the activity and all runners have great legs.
16 – 20 – vest plus shorts / capri leggings.
10 – 15 degrees – T shirt plus shorts / capri leggings.
4 – 9 degrees – Go long sleeve top here. You might want to add gloves and / or a light vest underneath. Capri or long running tights.
Less than 4. Long sleeve top with another top underneath. Gloves plus hat or buff. Long running tights.
Less than zero – Long sleeve top with a long sleeve baselayer underneath. Gloves and hat or buff. Long running tights preferably with thermal lining or thicker leggings.
If it’s windy – factor in the chill you might require an extra layer and / or gloves.
If it’s raining – you’ll only catch me running in a waterproof jacket if its absolutely pouring down or if it’s cold with it. Do be careful about cold and wet.
If you’re walking. For our Walk plus groups in particular I wear very similar to running but maybe a light extra layer. Walkers have the advantage when it’s raining because you can wear waterproof coat and trousers. Footwear is the most important thing. This time of year walking boots or trail trainers are a must especially for off road routes.
Of course evening groups should all be in Hi Viz. Look out for this new SE Fitness zingy orange top with reflective prints – coming soon!
